Has anyone been watching this? The follow up to 'Life on Mars' I've only watched two episodes so far, but can't really get into it like I did (recently) with 'Life on Mars'. Gene Hunt gets some good lines, but I don't think they should've bothered with a spin-off series. They should have left it alone after series 2 ended. They're just going over the same stuff again. That said, I'll stick with it and see if gets any better!

I'm watching it.... and I like it!
I like that there's a different chemistry between them, almost a will they/won't they type of thing. Plus, with her knowing what happened to Sam, made the ending of LOM better for me, coz at the time I was a little disappointed with the way it ended.
There's been a couple of good storylines, too. Stick with it..... hopefully it won't let you down!

I've heard that there could be a 2nd series of Ashes to Ashes, too.

I hope BBC America gets this!
Life on Mars was a huge success here on BBCA, so they should get this.
Of course, there's always the American version of Life On Mars supposedly coming, starring two actors I've never heard of as Sam and Annie, and (wait for it!) Chief O'Brien off Deep Space Nine as Gene!

I have an idea for another spin-off series...
'THE JEAN GENIE'
The title, again is another David Bowie song & a title Gene Hunt uses as a description for himself quite a lot.
The storyline would go as follws...
Gene Hunt has an accident (in 1981) and wakes up in 2008. He then has to police the area using 21st century methods and has to adapt to the world of anti-racist and political correctness!
Now that would make a much better series I reckon.

Our own Gene Genie said that back when Life On Mars was in it's second series, if I remember right.
I think it's a blinding idea, though I think Philip Glenister has recently said he doesn't think any more Gene Hunt shows should be made.
Shame that coz he's a great character.

Thanks for finding that Mr. Griffin. I genuinely don't remember reading this. And it was done before I ever saw any of Life on Mars... Here's a thought (and I reckon I'm not the only one to have thought of this) - instead of "Ashes To Ashes" being done... why not have a drama where Gene wakes up in 2008? Now that'd be better... seeing a 'traditional' head-pounding, slag-taking cop from the seventies having to cope with all the technology and 'pc friendly/unfriendly' issues of our modern world? Could have fun with him trying to get used to power-steering/sat nav (some belting chase sequences there eh?) Watch him try to suss out the internet. Here's an example - Gene in the canteen. Gene: Bacon sarnie please love.
Waitress: Not be a sec.
She pops a cardboard box into the microwave, 30 seconds pass - out it comes. Waitress: There you go.
Gene looks at the dry-looking bun with disgust.
Gene: What the hell is that?
Waitress: It's what you asked for.
Gene: You have GOT to be kidding me - where's the fat?
Waitress [grimaces]: You don't want that... it's bad for you.
Gene: Listen here Fanny Craddock, if I'd've wanted healthy I'd've asked you for a nosebag full of oats... get your frying pan out and do me a PROPER bacon sarnie - none of this 'microwoven' crap!
Waitress: Frying pan?
Gene: S*d it - just give me a Mars Bar instead. What do you reckon? N. Maybe I should pay more attention in class!
