Anyone remember this? They showed the 1st series of this over here in 1981, but it ran for three series in the U.S. It was another of Stephen J. Cannell's creations, and came about because stuff like the 'Incredible Hulk', 'Wonder Woman' & 'Spiderman' T.V. shows that were around at the time. Ralph Hinkley (the hero) was abducted by aliens, given a special suit, teamed up with some bloke from the F.B.I. (Bill Maxwell) and told to go and solve crimes. He was given an instruction book for his suit, but lost it on the beach, therefore causing problems when learning how to fly, hence the comedy element. And it had a very catchy theme tune...

I recall it being rotten!
As was "Mr Smith" (I think it was called) the talking Orang-Utang.
And what was that cack about Merlin... he owned a garage in modern day U.S.A?
They've done some crud!
;D

It wasn't that great to be honest. That's probably why we never got past the 1st series.
I vaguely remember "Mr. Smith"

Definitely...the theme song was the best thing about it - or possibly the end credits.
It's out on DVD over here now, and I want to buy it, I really do, but thankfully Renee stops me and sense intervenes.

I have a confession to make! I OWN the first series of this on R1! I bought it as a test for my multi-region DVD player! + I remembered quite liking the show as a kid, but only had vague recollections of it, so I was curious to see it again. It wasn't too bad but not great. Quite a bit of wooden acting! That said, I'll pass on the others! Best thing in was her what used to be in 'V' (Donovan's bird) FAYE GRANT

Talking of 'V', they've just been showing it again on Sci-fi channel. The days when Freddy Krueger was a goody! ...and very handy with childbirth too!

A bit of useless information for you. When the Greatest American Hero ended in 1986, they recorded a pilot of a follow up series 'The Greatest American Heroine'. This time with a woman in the suit instead. Surprisingly it never took off (and neither did she!), but you get the full episode as an Extra on the 1st Season DVD!.... And no, it's not so good!

'The Greatest American Heroine'. Bet Zammo would've wanted to watch it... And Mr. Pete Doherty... and Will Self. How disappointed when they'd realise... ;D N.

Well for any of you who did watch and like the show... It has been years since Ralph has passed on the suit to Holly. He has feeling something bad has happened and he finds himself in front of the suit with a new owner. An owner who the suit was not meant for. What can Ralph do on his own against the suit. www.fanfiction.net/s/2795209/1/

Actually, this show was similar to the A-Team in that it didn't fit into any mold very well. Sort of action, sort of comedy, sort of wierd.
I think that's why it was cancelled. They couldn't figure out what to do with it, and what market to aim for.
Now, as far as comedy, I think this is really cheesy 80s tv. And what isn't fun about that?!
I own all 3 DVDs.
For those who are not interested in the show... you're missing great stuff...
Sea monsters Voodoo priests Wiener Wagon abductions Circus clowns and midgets
And more cheesy special effects than any show I ever saw...
