Lutefisk Lutefisk is made from air-dried whitefish (normally cod, but ling is also used), prepared with lye, in a sequence of particular treatments. Basically it tastes and looks like fish flavored jelly and The odor of cooked lutefisk-an enduring aroma that melds the rankness of overripe fish with the industrial-strength stench of a soap factory – is something of an obsession in better homes throughout the lutefisk zone. Personally I hate the stuff. I've only eaten it once because my dad believed you can't say you hate something until you taste it, well I tasted it and I really hate it.
