Written by Carla Lane. Started in 1986. Finished 1991 (74 episodes) I enjoyed the 1st few series, especially 'Grandad'. Yes, I was easily amused by hearing some old codger telling people to "p*ss Off". then after series 4 Jack left and they replaced him with 'Shifty' (later got buried under the patio on Brookside) and it was downhill from there. It became more of a soap opera than a sitcom. Another bad thing they did was regenerate 2 of the main characters (Joey & Aveline) It's not the fact they replaced them, it was more of who they replaced them with. I stopped watching it after that.

I enjoyed it when I was a kid, but have showed no interest in the DVD's of it my wife has got.
It used to annoy me wondering what Joey did when I was little. And why he never had a change of clothes (like Fonzy) other than his leathers. He must have stunk.

I used to love this show when I was a kid (I agree, hearing Grandad complain and tell folk to p*ss off was amusing when you were 10.
As an adult thinking back, Joey had the coolest car in the world.
And in her own way (especially with her phone in her pocket, etc,) Mrs. Boswell was as prissy as Mrs. Bucket.
Not sure I'd watch it again as an adult though.

I've seen some of 'em more recently. They've aged drastically. Especially Joey's state of the art mobile phone ... And how much of a whinging arse was Billeeeeeee's girlfriend Julie! (both of them!)

State of the art mobile phone....again, in the 80s it WAS but maybe this'll make me sound old:
Since moving to America, Renee and I have never had a mobile. Last week we bought one what with her mum having issues recently. Aside from the necessity factor it is very cool and has lots of fun stuff you can do with it...but it's so SMALL! I know mobiles are smaller than they used to be, but I worry about losing this thing. Granted I'm a big bloke and have big hands but it literally fits, in the palm of my hand...I can literally close my fist over it.
I'd much rather have a slightly bigger phone. Every time we go out I worry about losing the damn thing.

Yeah, they are getting smaller & smaller!
I get annyoyed writing texts on 'em myself. Keep catching wrong key and have to keep deleting and re-doing words! At least they fit into your pockets though!
So do you refer to it as your 'mobile' or 'cell'?

Both....Renee knows my northern English enough to know what I mean when I say mobile...but with other people I say Cellphone. I do that with a lot of stuff these days that have different terms in the UK and US...like Renee and I go to buy petrol, but when paying inside I refer to it as gas talking to the woman behind the counter.
Lots of examples like that.

Crud - I thought you were there! Apologies! Okay then... I got to meet "Mam", "Billy" and some of the others... can't recall which. We'd gone on a school trip to see some gallery in Liverpool and they must've completed filming, so we met 'em by chance. I got 'em to sign me "Sweaty Lyrics" notebook... all me Heavy Metal fave song lyrics which I'd jotted down. I remember the gimp who played Billy looked in puzzlement as he signed... a pic. of a pumpkinheaded psycho holding up Charlie Brown's severed head (don't ask... summat to do wi' the group 'Helloween'). A while later I decided Bread was WELL SHITE and ripped up the notebook. And the satisfaction that gave me... like when you do a belting poo and don't need to wipe much or at all! Excellent! Next... ask me about Fred Dibnah's wife and Billy Dainty peeing in a sink... and the Bishop's son who stayed at Fred's who was 'No Bloody Good Like' and used to have loads of porno mags lying around til Fred threw him out! ;D Oh yes... I met Fred - even helped him rivet a boiler door for a tractor! Proof? Click here and look... I'm not posting the photos directly here... I were a wee bit fatter when them pics were taken! www.wiganworld.co.uk/fred/freddibnah1.php?opt=n
