Since there is a thread here for complaining I will complain. Yesterday my little one had the great idea of putting my cell phone in a bag with a water bottle. The bottle opened and split water all over the phone. Well now its dry (I believe) and it turns on for a few seconds then shuts off. I am thinking the phone is write off. Its not a contract phone so there is no replacements. As you probably guessed I am a bit peeved about having to buy a new one. I can get a decent one for $100 but $100 is still a lot and I would rather spend it on something else. So I am without a phone until two weeks from now. I canceled last night's trip to baseball because of this. I am considering canceling everything I have planed because I don't have a phone. Today we are suppose to go out to the farm on city transit. And I hate not having the phone for emergencies. Ok that is my big rant for 2009. Hopefully nothing like this happens again.

Sorry to hear about your phone, but I wouldn't let it control your life. Remember the old days when we had to find a phone box to make a call! I think we've all got too used to the world of mobile/cell phones and it's hard to imagine life without them but we managed without them before. For peace of mind regarding emergencies, could you not buy a cheap one to put you on for a couple of weeks or there is a chance that your other one will dry out and work again.

Fact is, though, Dr. Banner (at least in the States) given the sheer prevalence of mobile phones, there are far less phone boxes around.
eg, when we moved here, there was a public phone on the corner of the block we live on, and one in the restaurant downstairs. Within a year of us moving in, they were both gone, and now, the only public phones I know of in town are in the shopping mall (2 miles away), and in Wal-Mart and Target (both 4 miles away), so in a way I can see JrFan's point.

I understand the shortage of phone boxes these days, It's the same here and it's still the age old story. When you find one, it always stinks of p*ss and the phone never works!
But I did also suggest a cheap phone. (2nd hand or something). I don't know what the cheapest are over there but for peace of mind, you can buy a phone for about 15-20 quid these days. Worth it in case of emergencies.

True. We had a disaster with the flip fone Renee bought a couple of weeks back and it got returned, but still, the mobile phone she uses on a daily basis is a no frills pay as you go model, and it only cost us $9.98 when she bought it new a year or so ago. Plus, at the time she got a case, headset, and car charger with it.

I don't feel comfortable going out without it because of violence in the City. Lately there seems to be a lot of crap happening. During the day I feel safe. But the baseball game sometimes goes on until after dark. So its nice to have a phone if something bad happens. My boyfriend purchased me one last night for $100 which works out to 56 quid. Some of the payphones here now charge 50 cents a call. It used to be 25 cents. And there are fewer and fewer here too. My little one hopefully learned a lesson about touching my expensive stuff.

My better half thinks its the battery that's wonky. So I tried listing a classified ad but no success.I called the store and they said it will be $50 for a replacement. Kinda steep since it cost $90 to buy. I looked it up on ebay and found them cheaper. So I may buy it that way. If I do though. The new phone is much better. But I can't hear my texts as they come it. The old one allowed you to use your ringtunes as the alert. This one is a tiny chirp chirp sound.
