The NEW Johnny Vegas show
All-inclusive Costa Blanca heaven
10pm every Thursday from February 1st
BENIDORM is a new comedy from Derren Litten (The Catherine Tate Show, Doc Martin, Green Green Grass) features some of the finest comedy talent in the UK.
The new six-part series will be Paul Jackson's first commission since returning to ITV as Director of Entertainment and Comedy, and reunites him with Geoffrey Perkins, former Head of BBC Comedy who produced shows including The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Harry Enfield, Spitting Image, Father Ted, and The Catherine Tate Show.
Set in the Solana all-inclusive Resort, BENIDORM follows regulars and first-time holiday makers on their journeys abroad. Despite their disparate backgrounds they all have one thing in common - a quest for getting value for money!
Regulars at The Santiago are Jacqueline (Janine Duvitski - About a Boy, One Foot in the Grave, Waiting for God) and Donald (Kenny Ireland - Rose and Maloney, New Tricks), who have been coming to Benidorm for twenty years, though they have never seen the resort itself. Why do they need to when everything they want is in the Solana Resort - all inclusive food and drink… oh and sex! Both are enthusiastic and middle-aged swingers.
Kate (Abigail Cruttenden - Foyle’s War, The Robinsons) and Martin Weedon (Nicholas Burns - Nathan Barley, Man Stroke Woman) are going through a rough patch during their third year of marriage. Five seconds is all it takes for them to realise that the Solana Resort is the very worst place for them to make a fresh start.
Known as ‘The Oracle’ because of his computer-like knowledge of trivial facts and figures, Geoff Maltby (Johnny Vegas - Ideal, Bleak House) is on holiday with his mother. He is Lancashire’s pub quiz champion and prone to depression.
Gavin (Hugh Sachs - The Catherine Tate Show, Him and Us) and Troy (Paul Bazely - Vanity Fair, Green Wing) are on their first break away together after setting up a successful hair salon. Both like to think that they are far too classy for Benidorm but are happy enough to get drunk and sblack person at other holiday makers.
Then there are The Garveys; a Lancashire family who are on their first holiday abroad. Janice (Siobhan Finneran - Clocking Off, The Amazing Mrs Pritchard, Wire in the Blood) and Mick (Steve Pemberton - The League of Gentlemen, Under the Greenwood Tree,), are with their teenage daughter Chantelle, eight year old son Michael, and Janice’s mother - the sun-worshipping, chain-smoking Madge (Sheila Reid - Sea of Souls, Midsomer Murders, Monarch of the Glen), with a bad word for everyone.
Directing the series will be Kevin Allen (The Big Tease, Twin Town), and Sophie Clarke-Jervoise (Help, Love Soup, Manchild) is executive producer.
