MY FIRST EVICTIONThe joys of working those weekend nights... At 1am this morning I picked up a chap about 50 odd or so. He spoke in what I can only describe as a 'gypsy' accent. He seemed pleasant enough at first, then we set off on a journey from Scholes to Ashton. On the way, the bloke asked if I could stop off at a chippy, which I said "yes" to if there was still one open. We passed two on the way which were both closed. That didn't surprise me as it was after 1am after all. By now, the gypsy chap decided to question the route I was going, and thought I was driving round in circles. Why would I do that? Anyway, as we kept going, he was now get more and more aggresive towards me. "What are you f*ckin' playin at?" he asked. "You're just a pr*ck... I want some f*ckin fish & chips now so I do". At that point, I stopped the car and told him to "Get the f*ck out and go and find a chippy that's open. This journey ends here" We were on the outskirts of Bryn by this time. I didn't get paid a penny (not sure why!) The bloke hadn't a clue where he was and was still shouting obscenities at me as I drove away. Anyway, I just thought I'd share that with you all, just to point out how good my job can be (not) sometimes. Rant over!

Here... the other week my Mam came out with a comment, she reckons that gyppos don't eat chips!
Don't ask me what or why... I daren't question her -she's me Mam, just adamant that that statement is true!

Could be that he'd fancied chips every now and again but the chippies are always shut when the urge for chips crops up! My brother in law (who is also a taxi driver) also has a theory about my experience. He reckons the gypsy chap actually lived close to where I kicked him out and regularly winds taxi drivers up enough to be thrown on on cue just to get a free ride!

FUn for him I suppose. Anyroad - gyppos vs chips - one woman I work with says that's cack - she's seen gyppos going into a chippy in St. Helens... BUT - I don't know what they ordered - so the debate goes on! N.

I have a question what is a gypsy? Heard of the word before but not sure what it means.

Proper 'gypsy' refers to a 'traveller' - seen to originate from Romania (referred to as a 'Romany Gypsy') - these are folk that travel from place to place right across Europe looking for work - travel by caravan. Nowadays - it's more depictive of a person who lives in a caravan as opposed to a house, and is generally treated with scorn and referred to as 'gyppo', or in other parts - 'pikey'. To me, these aren't 'proper gypsies' though... but that's a debate for another time. N.

I've always reckoned that... the same feller played 'Tommy' in "Snatch" and was in "Band Of Brothers" and I always thought he had a look of him - mind you, this is coming from Neil 'Jez Quigley' Baxter who had to have that 'likeness' pointed out to him! N.
