Oh Shit!
[glow=red,2,300]Music Zone enters administration [/glow] Music Zone has struggled against online competition CD and DVD retailer Music Zone has gone into administration. Music Zone has seven stores in Scotland, three in Glasgow and outlets in Dumfries, Dunfermline, Glenrothes and Inverness.
The chain said it had no alternative to administration after its bankers decided to recover debts without notice and with immediate effect.
Administrators said they would continue trading at the firm while seeking a buyer to run it as a going concern.
The chain has 104 stores across the UK and 1,100 staff and had been struggling against competition online and from supermarkets.
A spokesman for administrators Deloitte also said there would be no immediate redundancies.
Market stall
Music Zone was bought in a £12m management buy-out in 2005, backed by private equity firm Lloyds Development Capital.
A company spokesman said the firm was not alone in experiencing "challenging trading conditions" on the High Street.
He added that pre-Christmas spending was also poorer than expected.
Stockport-based Music Zone said in January last year that it was "optimistic about future growth".
It made the comments after it bought 43 former stores from the MVC chain, which had itself gone into administration.
Music Zone was founded by Russ Grainger from a market stall in Longsight, Manchester, in 1984.

I'm surprised to hear that.
MZ usually do good offers. I'll probably stick to internet shopping for DVD's from now on then.

Net shopping is easier and cheaper though, as long as you don't mind waiting a few days for Poatman Pat to deliver!
or chicken! ;D

Chicken Pat or Postman Chicken?
;D
Yep - often 'Play' is the cheapest... or HMV for online... but a shame though, because I like the occasional 'real browse' as opposed to online.
Ah well...
Mind you, they p*ssed me about a few times the folk who worked in there so I can chuckle a bit!
;D

I must admit, partly because we live in a small town, it's often easier to find good stuff (especially British stuff like Dr. Who) online, but as Speilberg said, you have to wait for Il Postino Pat ;D to deliver for you, and I hate that. I'm an instant gratification person. When I ordered me Superman book last week, I knew from the UPS website it'd be delivered Friday (and it was) but I hate having to wait.
When I know something's coming in the mail that I want, I'm like a kid at Christmas, gimmee gimmee gimmee. By the time the thing came Renee was about ready to kill me! ;D

as Speilberg said, you have to wait for Il Postino Pat Now that's a weird coincidence - that you BOTH have the same Spanish postman! By heck, he must have a fecking BIG round! ;D N.

Music Zone administrator says stores sold to Fopp LONDON (Reuters) - Deloitte & Touche, administrator for retailer Music Zone, said it has sold 67 of the company's 100 stores to its competitor Fopp Ltd., for an undisclosed price.
Manchester (MNCS.OB - news) -based Music Zone filed for administration in early January after struggling against competition from the Internet and supermarkets.
Deloitte said on January 25 that a buyer hadn't been found and the company would close its shops and lay off its 800 staff.
"This represents a much better outcome for creditors and other stakeholders than a piece-meal disposal," said Bill Dawson, a partner at Deloitte.
Fopp, founded in Glasgow in the early 1980s, operates 31 stores throughout the country, according to its web site.
