Classic film! Musicians... a plot... dastardly deeds and a sweet old lady who ain't the pushover she appears to be! Now that's the basic plot used in the original AND the remake... 1st being U.K. and the 2nd set in the U.S. And... I like both! First one will always be recognised as a classic... but the second one was very much underrated in my book and had some pretty sharp dialogue and genuinely funny scenes. N.

Here... 1955 version: A gang planning a 'job' find themselves living with a little old lady, who thinks they are musicians. When the gang set out to kill Mrs Wilberforce, they run into one problem after another, and they get what they deserve.
2004 version: A remake of the 1955 comedy, the story revolves around a Southern professor who puts together a group of thieves to rob a casino. They rent a room in an old woman's house, but soon she discovers the plot and they must kill her, a task that is more difficult than it seems.

I haven't seen the original, but I do recall Moriarty telling me it's very good.
I tried to watch the remake, and despite having some of my favourite actors in it (Tom Hanks, JK Simmons), I have to say I wasn't impressed.

The Original is simply the best , a truly stellar cast , Sir Alec Guinness , Peter Sellars , and the delightfully Psycho Herbert Lom , The beauty of the original , I think is that although the old lady discovers the plot , she genuinly has no idea how the members of the gang disappear , wonderful

Saw the remake on Saturday, didnt like it one bit compared to the 1955 British one. I love that one at least in that one you've got greats such as Alex Guinnes and Peter Sellers. I thought the remake was ok but wouldn't buy it.
