Health and safety ban on red noses Tuesday March 13, 04:11 PM Red noses have been banned from the BBC's celebrity show Comic Relief Does Fame Academy - because they are a fire hazard.
The foam noses, sold to raise money for the cause, have been deemed a health and safety risk.
The BBC1 show is filmed at London's Grade II-listed County Hall on the banks of the River Thames.
A spokesman for programme-makers Endemol said: "We have to comply with health and safety rules because it is a Grade II-listed building and not a conventional studio."
All "non-essential" items are banned from the recording area - including newspapers, bottles and bags.
But a show insider told the Daily Mirror: "The noses are checked thoroughly to make sure they adhere to European safety standards.
"Put it this way, they're hardly going to cause much damage. It's a shame because the show is to raise money and it might have encouraged more people to go out and buy the noses if they saw them on the telly."
The show will reach its finale on Friday - Red Nose Day.
Scottish comedian and presenter Fred MacAulay became the latest contestant to be voted out on Monday night.
