Watched this last night... pretty hit and miss, but there are a lot of funny bits in it.
I do reckon they went WELL o.t.t. with the anti-Jewish stuff... although probably deemed 'ironic' (by displaying members of a 'backward' nation's prejudices to another culture) it's sort of done in a "hey, this is clever... so we can get away with it" style like 'Little Britain'.
Having said that though, a lot of the funnier stuff is in 'Kazakstan' (or however you pronounce it) and the peoples there... now to me, I ain't got a CLUE about this country 'in real life' other than they didn't like the way they were potrayed, but I just think if this as being a 'fictional' place whilst depicted in the film (Like 'The Duchy of Grand Fenwic' for those who know what I mean).
It's also hard to spot what's 'genuine' and what's 'spoof' in the interviews and such - but that doesn't matter - as long as yer not trying to analyse the f*ck out of the thing, then there's a good few laughs to be had.
And... ahem, after all this, I agree with Solo's review (although the chap's not overly loquacious):
Average

I've still not seen this yet. I'll wait until it goes cheaper then probably buy a copy.
I don't mind the Borat character.

I sort of want to see this, but by the same token, I sort of don't want to see it. From the trailers, it looks like it might have some comical moments in (lampooning Superman Returns and Harry Potter and so on) but it also looks like it would have more bad content than good.
And, I'm not a huge fan of Ali G, or Sasha Baron Cohen to begin with. I'll probably give it a miss.

lampooning Superman Returns and Harry Potter and so on ? We on about the same film, because there's none of that in it... it's done as a 'daft documentary' of a foreigner's perceptions of American Culture and bits of his culture. N.

Yer thinking of a film I have seen trailers for which is spoofs of recent fillums I reckon - and I can't remember what the fecker's called!
As to the 'Borat' one...
Hmm... I've changed me mind (so quickly?) I'm upgrading it to 'above average' as I has watched some of the deleted scenes and stuff which are pretty good - one great line in there:
"I've had 16 Cinnabons - my anooos is open like mouth of tired dog: if you make attack on it, it may make a release"
There are a lot of good scenes in there... where else would you see a naked 'porno-tache' feller (Borat) chasing his fat producer around an auditorium b*ll*ck naked whilst waving a fist shaped rubber dildo?
Hardly an image to share with the vicar I know, but pretty funny.
And another good bit is where he asks at a dinner party where "The Sh*tHole" is, and then comes back down with his poop in a 'baggy'!
;D
By heck, at this rate, I'll be saying it's F*CKIN' TOP before 9 p.m. toneet!

I was really skeptical about this movie. But I did see it when it was in the theaters. And I laughed my arse off.
Certainly, I can understand why some were upset with the way that Kazakhistan was portrayed, as well as some anti-semitic stuff in there... but if you realize it's a p*ss take on the Americans, then you have to laugh...
For some reason, I found the soviet-era footage at the end to be hysterical.
Just a little factoid - the fraternity boys in the film (You know, when Borat is hitchhiking) actually tried to sue over the way they were portrayed.
**snicker snicker**
"Sue you! Sue me! Sue everybody!!" - The Jerky Boys

"Sue you! Sue me! Sue everybody!!" - The Jerky Boys Yep... after seeing it a few times, I'm really not overkeen on the anti-semitic aspects, but I reckon it's not as bad as I originally thought re: that. I really like this film now - the scenes in his hometown are very funny... again, you look at him as someone coming from a non-specific 'backward' country (i.e. underdeveloped technologically and multiculturally) then it works as great comedy. As for the 'frat boys' - no wonder they tried to sue... they come across as sex-crazed, misogynistic drunken w*nk*rs - the whole world's laughing AT them... not WITH them! ;D N.
