If I recall, some UK survey of the top 100 funniest films of all time listed this one about 6th (I think Life of Brian was 7th or close to that). I was happy to see the Brits appreciate great comedy.
I personally think this is the funniest film of all time.
My son, bless his heart, is a true Mel Brooks fan. He can recite this movie from start to finish, he's that much of a fan. He does the accents flawlessly (when he lived in England for two years, he learned how to do a perfect British accent as well).
"Look at y'all lollygagging around here like it's 120 degrees. Cain't be more'n a hunnerd n'fourteen!" (Asian woman collapses.) "Dock that chink a day's pay for nappin' on the job!"
"Are we awake?" "It depends. Are we black?" "Yes we are."
"Bart, Bart! They said you was hung!" "And they was right!"
"Rape, looting, murder, rape." "You listed rape twice." "I like rape."
"Sorry about the 'up yours, n**ger'."
Shockingly non-PC in today's day and age, isn't it?
