I first saw this only a few years ago on Granada plus (I was too young to remember it when it was first on) Set in a northern working mens club (in fact, just a studio set at Granada TV in Manchester), a good few years before the Phoenix Club was established! With your resident compere Bernard Manning (trying very hard not to swear) and the chairman of the commitee Colin Crompton. A line-up of different 'turns', a lot of them quite poor, but some of them evolved into household names. Yes, the W&S club is responsible for helping the careers of the likes of Cannon & Ball, Frank Carson, Jim Bowen, Little & Large, Norman Collier (sorry, nor an c lier), Paul Daniels & The Krankies. (to name just a few!)

I also have the Vinyl LP, which is mostly songs by Bernard and Colin with Frank Carson as Guest and a Stripper...

SHEER CLASS!!!
Like Mr Seilberg I first saw the show a few years ago on Granada Plus.
This show was a stereotypical view of your traditional Northan Workin Man's Club complete with Cig smoke, Flat caps and Brown Ale it wouldn't surprise if you looked hard enough you may find a Whippet tied up somewhere.
Bernard may have been the compare but for me the star of the show was the Chairman of Committee Colin Crompton.
The show would feature numerous Turns as they called em many now hows hold names and every now and again you would get Colin ringin his bell to signal some major announcement in his best northan accent and most of them would start with the classic....
"WE THE MEMBERS OF THE COMITTEE......"

A stripper? It's worse than listening to a juggler on the radio - mad stuff! N. P.S. Bluebottle... no whippets, but there were a couple of racing pigeions in whicker baskets, and some ferrets! ;D
