best story i heard about tommy cooper was him tipping a taxi driver outside a theatre putting the tip in the drivers top pocket and saying "here have a drink on me" when the driver looked there was a tea bag in there.. ;D I've heard that story too. probably on a documentary or something... And knowing Tommy's humour, it's probably true! ;D

I'm currently watching Tommy Cooper's 1978 series 'Just Like That'. Although I'm a big fan of Tommy, this one's a poor series.
It's all done on stage as opposed to the usual studio job but it's as though Tommy couldn't really be arsed. It's basically all his old stuff re-used (yet again) but the timing isn't great therefore making it a little bit unfunny.
And considering the episodes are only 25 minutes long, there's not much Tommy. I reckon there's about 10 minuts per episode maximum. The rest is padded with guest stars. One of them, is that bloke who appeared on TISWAS banging his head with beer trays. Who was he? I imagine he died of brain damage!

When this thread was 'Live' I wasn't a fan of TC, But Am now!...
As for the above - Tommy's Drinking and Health issues we're hurting his TV career at this point so they made these shows as easy for him as possible, His timing was shot and sadly it shows.

If you actually take out the poor sketches and music guests from Tommy's shows you'll find probably abut 5 mins of Tommy material in total, which got reworked every series he made. As funny as he was his material was more limited than I used to realise.

As funny as he was his material was more limited than I used to realise. Sadly It looks like his best TV work no longer exists, The book 'Always Leave them Laughing' Seems to indicate this.
