Yep - it's me in 'rant' mode once again... the time when my brain has a 'spring clean'. I've extensively updated my comedy forum and added sh*tloads to it. Why ain't I done it here? Well... this place has gone a bit too much like the 'Waltons' here in my opinion... there's practically f*ck all in the way of jokes and humour at the moment - okay, there's mates a-chatting which is fair enough but this is supposed to be about COMEDY - not a fr*ggin' drop in centre! I've discussed this wi' the boss by the way so it'll not come as a surprise for him to read this. Now maybe it's because I'm doing LOADS at the mo - puppet stuff/impressions/character comedy/joke writing/stand-up routines etc. etc. that I'm posting this wee comment. Anyhow - please feel free to sulk, pout and take this personally - it's just my opinion which I feel is valid... and I DO realise that I'm guilty of the 'hey everyone - look at me' style of posting (I'm not the only one) where I post things revolving around ME ME ME! But I have to say... at least it relates to comedy, albeit only slightly. I've said this before, but this place can come across as 'right clicky' where we say "Join in everyone - it's fun here and we love to have a laugh" etc. and then screw it up by providing no supportive evidence - sure there's the odd 'quip' in the games bit... but other than that, it's general comments, whinges etc. etc. The irony is not lost on me that I'm 'whinging' - but I'm going for constructive criticism in order to maybe get things going proper again. So what do I suggest? At the moment - NOTHING, as I reckon I'd better wait for a reaction to this post before I put any ideas forward. Right - that's me off. N.

Fair comments Neil. I'm always up for a laugh, which, yes, is what Planet Comedy originally was set up for. I don't get the time to get on as much as I did in the early days. I was only working part time then. Now, as you know, I'm back on full time nights, which doesn't give me much chance to get on here now. My spare hours are very limited. I do agree with some of what you say. It IS supposed to be a comedy forum & not really a whinging zone.

N. I use to think this was nothing more than a "good ol' boys club", but I started posting and reading and found that there is something for everybody here. I have no problem welcoming new members, but it does seem like there aren't that many to welcome. Now maybe that's my fault, maybe I haven't gone out of my way to seek them out and make them feel at home. If so I promise to change that. As for this being like "the Waltons" ? Well, that was a favorite show of mine and we could be compared to a lot worse. If you really think that this place has strayed from it appointed path, then as a mod you could change things, add more "comedy", find ways to bring in new members. I love this place the way it is, but it could always be better I suppose. Anyway, whatever, you have your opinion and I have mine. Good Night Neilboy

Now that got me laughing - love it! Hope I don't get branded as a 'Waltons Hater' though! Thanks for the reply folks -I had a dread that I'd be a bit of a 'leper' for this thread, but no - I appreciate it when the info's taken on board... true, at the end of the day, it's my opinion, granted. Here's what I intend to do for starters (time permitting - I'll try and sort it when back from work):- 1. "De-Neil" the place... instead of me having 'ME-ME-ME' threads, I'll bung all the 'what have I been up to' stuff in one thread... that way, it'll tidy the place up and focus it properly instead of having my cr*p everywhere. 2. Have some of my stuff transferred from 'Shaft' to here - I've done a wee bit already, but I can put some more input here. 3. Any skriking, I'll keep to this thread rather than cluttering - granted... I think it needed saying, but it don't need rubbing in - so I'll not continue this in other threads. So there ye have it. As to getting new members... any ideas - I've one or two thoughts in process... will say more when they hatch. N.

Reet... I've made a start BEFORE I go to work - there's dedicated! Put some new stuff in, and deleted a lot of my old stuff. Right - a suggestion that I reckon WILL improve the place. It's comedy right? Comedy is specifically 'humour based' and most often relies on being delivered in 'joke format'. So WHY is the "Are You avin' a Laugh?" section RIGHT DOWN at the bottom of the page? It should be as near to this part of the forum as poss. - majority of people want instant access on the internet without having to scroll etc. - fact. So - my opinion, a re-jig Mr. Sheds and move it up to the top. As simple as that! Reet - shower then work I reckon... oh, and I'll also put clothes on too - don't want to make that mistake again! Trar cockers! N.

That I can't argue with. Again, that is also one of this forum's features. I myself, haven't posted much in the 'new comedy' section, as I haven't seen most of it, so can't really comment. There must be people out there who HAVE seen recent stuff and DO have an opinion about it. They just need to get their thoughts registered on here. That way, I could be persuaded to watch certain things if they sound good. It worked for me with 'Family Guy' remember! As to the quotes page there are already the TV boards anyway which have their own particular threads. So it's best to keep them in their relevant place, thus reviving old threads. There isn't a radio comedy section, so I can soon sort that out... Leave it wi' me.

Frankly, even though I'm all for new members, in a lot of ways I like that it's 'cliquey' here sometimes. I like an easygoing forum where members aren't trolling or flaming each other. That said, if new members join, join IN, and post constructively, I'd welcome that.
Maybe we should remove the "Members Only" restriction on the main area. To have to join to read that is maybe why we have so many joiners that don't post. They join to be able to read that section, decide they don't like it, and leave. If that was open from the get-go, only those that WANTED to join would, after they'd already had a chance to see what the forum offers.
Part of the reason Renee and I don't post much in the comedy areas, especially the newer British stuff, is because we don't see a lot of it. Despite its claims, BBC America is not the pinnacle of British TV.
Another thought I have, with relation to the organization of threads, is to move the conversational threads, "What Are You Eating," "What are you Up To," etc, to general chat, since they're not really game threads. Maybe even remove the Barry thread, since that could be off putting to new members. Maybe add stuff like that to the Black Hole.
And Neil, with all due respect, even though you're entitled to your moan, instead of simply moaning, DO something about your moan. (I see you did afterwards, so this point is moot,) Merely complaining about the prob won't solve the prob.

(I see you did afterwards, so this point is moot,) Merely complaining about the prob won't solve the prob. Yer right there Paul - it would've been hypocritical for me to moan and do nowt - from now on, all my 'vids' and 'characters' are going in one thread... by heck, I had to shift a sh*tload of stuff which I'd clogged the general forum up with! As to 'the click' - yep, it's comfortable to have friends on here and to natter... but when it's not 'comedy' related I wonder does it put people off - I can only imagine at that as I reckon it needs some 'newbies' to comment on that (anyone?) - if I'm totally wrong, I apologise... I've based that theory on other forums I've run and moderated - it'd be interesting to see any 'evidence' or not to support that theory. Also - whinging... why don't we have a separate part of the forum for this - I did it before - this: Could be serious and/or humorous depending - a good chance to moan legitimately... AND it's justified - we'd have a dedicated section to do it in! And this isn't just an excuse for me to have my daft pic - nor the name 'skrikers corner' - owt'll do - it's the idea that's effective I reckon. I've also been in touch with Mr. Sheds re: how to make this place more user-friendly and accessible - I'll leave that with him. In the meantime - expect more input and less whinging from me! N.

I haven't actually gone & looked - so excuse me if this already exists - but what about a place where you can post (copy & paste etc) all the joke emails that do the rounds? You know, a bit like the text thread? I get loads of funny emails but never thought of putting them on here as it would seem like I was passing them off as something I'd thought of

Had another thought...
What about a game of Karajoke - to use a Peter Kay term.... sorry!
One person posts the first line of the joke, the next delivers the punch line etc?

That sounds like a great idea zoot. I get tons of funny emails from friends and I would love to share them here. I have a feeling the big boss man needs to have a think tank between him and all his staff and re-organize the place a bit. As I said before I love this place, it feels like home or a very cool pub, but it could be so much better. I wouldn't want to lose what we have here, but it would be awesome if we could get more members who actually post. It does seem like the same half dozen or so, do all the posting. We could have the best forum on the net if we set our minds to it.

Well, how about a section for members to post their own videos, such as Neil's puppet/comedy ramble stuff? Given the new webcam I might even get into that meself.
