This might be old news but I saw the trailer for it today. I really really really hate it! I think its diabolical that its got made! I'd have thought the british one would go down well in America, why do they have to re-make it! anyway heres the trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-aDlRJVYuI

The British one did go down in America. BBC America have shown both seasons, and rumour has it that they'll be showing Ashes to Ashes.
There's been talk of the American version for a while; it was supposed to have happened already but was delayed because of the writer's strike. From this trailer, it looks almost as though the 'writer' of this version has simply carbon copied the British version, though I'll be more objective when I see more than a two minute trailer.
Apparently ABC (the smallest of the big national TV stations here) have picked up an entire season, and it'll be on this autumn. As soon as it lands here, I'll report on it.

Now... as ye all know as a former 'Gene Hunt' and committed "Life On Mars" fanatic... I'm bond to chip in...
And... to be honest - I'd certainly give it a go!
As a fan of 'Columbo' and some of the 'Yank' genre this looks interesting... and Colm Meeney is a good actor, so to see him in the 'Gene' role - I'm intrigued.
I'd certainly give it a watch - if it turned out sh*te, then fair do - but interesting stuff I reckon.

The show is scheduled to begin next week (Oct 9th.) Suffice to say my DVR already has it scheduled to record.
ABC.com has put a few small videos on their new Life On Mars page, teasing us about the first episode, and from what I've seen, as I said months ago, it looks like a carbon copy of the British show (at least from the previews of the first episode) simply with Americanisations for stuff that's obviously British. For example, when he first arrives, Sam mentions to the cop who finds him he wants his cell (cellphone) and the cop says, "Sell what?"
Another is when (in the British version) he mentions his PC terminal, and the plainclothes lads ask why he wants a plod bringing up. In the US version he mentions his computer, and the squad make references to computers being the stuff of science fiction, like HAL from 2001.
The cast of characters are essentially the same, although Annie has the surname Norris, apparently so she can be referred to as "No-nuts Norris." She doesn't look anything like Liz White; she's blonde.
Chris and Ray (Detectives Skelton and Carling in the US version) are present and correct, and are even portrayed by actors that resemble Marshall Lancaster and Dean Andrews. Harvey Keitel plays Lieutenant Gene Hunt, squad commander, (an actual rank and term used in the NYPD) and from the little I've seen seems like a slightly more hardboiled Americanised version of the Gene we all know and love. He lacks the lovable rouge-ish-ness that Philip Glenister brought to Gene.
And speaking of Harvey Keitel, the entire cast (with the exception of Jason O'Mara as Sam) was replaced after the pilot was filmed and shown to ABC. Initially, others were to play Chris, Ray, and Annie, and Colm Meaney was supposed to play Gene. And two other changes. Initially, Sam was supposed to be in the LAPD and in 1972 - Now he's in the NYPD, and in 1973, like the British Sam.
Granted all this (lengthy! sorry!) information has come just from the teasers I've seen on the ABC website, but I'm quietly optimistic. If anyone's still interested, I'll post my thoughts on the series proper next week when it starts.
