Before Baddiel & Skinner evolved, Rob Newman appeared on 'The Mary Whitehouse Experience, appeared as one half of The 'History Today' characters, then went on tour with David Baddiel doing a stand-up show. It must be said, Rob Newman's stand-up material was very weak. One of his routines was painting pictures on stage to ease his nerves. It was like watching paint dry! ;D

Saw him in St Helens a few years ago at The Citadel. Johnny Vegas was his support.
We were the first ones there at the queue and we saw Rob Newman walking up picking his nose. We just thought it was some scruffy student until he drew level with us.
He wasn't too bad though. He did an excellent Steve Hawkins versus the guy who did Steve Hawkins voice sketch. Some funny stuff about Marie Rimmer. Some of his intellectual stuff though went over the heads of most of the audience. And who wants to hear jokes about politics and war torn areas etc.
