One thing that surprised me on here was that Bobby has never mentioned he used to be a club comic way back in the late 60's early 70's. He played most of the clubs up in the North West of England and was a very popular comedian. It was very difficult to fill a club in those days if you were only a comic, so Bobby also sang a few songs to keep the crowds entertained. Not the best singing voice in clubland but he enjoyed himself on there.
He tried for 'Opportunity knocks' in 1971 but never made it to the final. He also tried to get a spot on 'The Comedians', but was rejected because he didn't know enough clean gags!.... We were both surprised when they let the legend Bernard Manning on!
Blue gags became Bobby's downfall. As political correctness started creeping in, there wasn't many people turning up to the clubs anymore, so Bobby opted out of the business after getting into a bit of trouble because of some of his gags. Bobby was too stubborn at the time to clean up his act and later regretted not doing.
I was his manager during the last few years of his club career. I tried my best to make a big name for Bobby, but fate had other ideas, and it never happened for him. It's a shame really because Bobby should be up there with that list of top stand-up comics.

I didn't know all that! Quite a star in his day then.
I've had PM's off Bobby a couple of times just to check if certain jokes are alright to be posted. I don't think there's been any I've refused so far!

Great stuff... in fact, I've mentioned this to a work colleague who's told me he remembers seeing Bobby do a few gigs in St. Helens many years ago - weird, I was going to mention it here anyhoo, and then I read this! Interesting stuff. N.

A bit more came back to me... Didn't part of his act involve half a loaf and jokes about being 'inter-bred'? And summat else Malkie told me about him - he used to do a song called "Hide The Hoover 'til Nan's Ate The Biscuits" which was meant to be a bit blue. N.

That's right columbo, Bobby did quite a few gigs in St. Helens in his time. Even I had forgotten the songs you mention there too. As to a recording of Bobby, yes he did have a show recorded around 1973 at a club in Blackpool. Sadly, neither myself or Bobby have a copy of it anymore. My copy got paint spilled all over it one day when I was decorating the living room! And as to what happened to Bobby's own personal copy, I think it's better if he tells you what happened to that when he's back on!
If any of you stumble across a copy of his LP, make sure you buy it. It's a very rare find. There weren't too many copies produced, but I know there's some out there somewhere.

Someone told me about a few others he did: "Cheesegrater Blues" "Tuppence for a look up yer Tunic" "Alabaster Disaster and the Brown Dog's Nose" "Turps And Turnips". ;D All sounds a bit mad to me... plus I've heard a few tales about him chasing ambulances and shouting: "hey, what about me 99?" N.

Hello chaps, Bobby's back with you once again. After a bit of a bad do just after Christmas, I'm finally back on my feet again. In fact, I'm bloody beltin'! I can't believe Charlie put this on here about me. I was trying to remain a little bit anonymous to be honest. Mind you, I shouldn't really have used my stage name on here. As for those songs Frank mentioned, I didn't do all of those myself, but some of them. I did record an album, as Charlie mentioned but if there are copies of it still knocking about you'd be lucky to find one. My own copy that I had got burned with a pile of other stuff after an argument with my 2nd wife! One thing I do have is this photo Charlie found the other week... I'm the one on the left at the back. Charlie's on the right. The women are a few people who were at a gig I once did in a club in Wigan, except the one at the front, that was my 2nd wife Christine. (the one who burnt my stuff) She died in 1989.
