I'm not as clever as I think I am....... I've managed to balls up my own PC! Trying to set up a home network between my two PC's, I had to make a disc - apparently - so that the PC running Windows ME could connect to my XP PC. Seemed perfectly reasonable...... but ever since I ran the disc in my old PC this afternoon I've had nothing but problems with it. I'm getting error messages galore & I can't get on the net with it! Not sure what to do now.... Internet Explorer keeps closing because of an unknow error - how are you supposed to troubleshoot that? ....bugger.

I don't mean this to sound condescending, Zoot. I'm not sure how much you know about blitzing (formatting) a Windows ME PC to get rid of a screwed up system, so, sorry if it sounds like I'm spoon-feeding you. I realize formatting is a last resort, but (in my experience) a frequent one with ME! Assuming you have no other solution: Find your Windows ME installation CD. Pray you have a Windows ME boot (floppy) disk. Put the floppy in drive A and restart the computer. When it gets to it, select "Start PC With CD ROM Support," and wait for the A prompt. A:>_ Make note what the system tells you your CD-ROM drive is. "Your CD ROM is Drive X." It might be different than it normally would be. At the A prompt, type format c: and press return. It will tell you (in big letters) Warning! All data on non-removable disc drive C will be removed. Continue? Type Y and press return. Wait, counting up to 100%. Once the A prompt reappears, insert the Windows ME CD, and type X: and press return. At the X prompt, type [/b]setup[/b] and press return. Follow the Windows ME prompts to reinstall windows ME. Of course if you know all this, sorry, (and I wasted 15 mins typing it! ) but if you don't, it might help. Also, the most obvious troubleshooter for Windows ME is a decent sledgehammer and a tall building with an open window. Good luck getting it sorted.

Thanks for the advice, Shake. I have had to do that in the past..... I even had to replace the hard drive once as it was so corrupted it was beyond saving! Problem is I don't actually have the Windows ME cd - just the boot disc - so I'm having to bid for one on ebay. I'm hoping I'll be able to use the 'repair' option to insall the missing Rundll...... I really hope it doesn't get so drastic I have to format it again! That's such a pain. Failing that - tall building option it is

Enjoying the fact that our kitty sitting job is over. Paul told Cowboy's owner to come and get him because our cat Kallie was getting too upset. She didn't want to, she kept giving us excuses about losing him to the shelter, but my baby comes first and she came to get him on Sunday. Today I found out that the guy who owns the place she's staying at has given her permission to keep him until she leaves, as long as the cat stays in the basement. At least everyone is happy now and Kallie is back to herself again. I will never offer to take in someone's cat, even for one night.

Have a good rest-of-weekend, Dude. (Make sure yer box is set for me tintops though ) I went out for my (almost-)daily walk earlier, for the first time grooving along to Meat Loaf while walking thanks to my new MP3 player. Although I'm by no means a technophobe and love living in the digital age, it's a sign I'm getting older when I marvel at the fact that something so tiny can give such good sound - and can hold all the music at once I could possibly want. I was so into the music I ended up going for a much longer walk than I would have otherwise. Definitely a good thing, I think. The rest of my weekend will be taken up with TV, NASCAR racing tonight, and, well, I dunno about tomorrow yet.
