An assumption I know, but I reckon not many folk on here (if any) will have heard of this chap. If you've heard of George Formby though... then you're along the right lines. This fellow, also from Wigan was for me the original 'blue' comedian and master of the double entendre, wink and nudge. His films are unbelievably rare... but I've managed to get 'em on eBay... hopefully they'll arrive shortly without a hitch - when they do I can give more info. Here's the films: Somewhere in England -1940 Somewhere in Camp -1942 Somewhere on Leave -1943 Somewhere in Civvies -1943 Holidays with Pay -1948 It's a Grand Life -1953
I've seen a couple and used to have one on tape... but these very rarely see the light of day which is a pity... it seems that nostalgia is only worthy of note if it's clean (which doesn't say much for some of the more subversive texts of the Roman Era and the Greek Plays). Excellent comic - Frank Randle - I have his films on DVD - and they are worth their weight in gold to me. Particularly like It's a Grand Life.
