I used to watch this with my mum! Don't know why but I did. Sort of 'got into it' in a tragic sort of way. Probably because I was having my tea at the time it was on, so didn't have much choice in the matter! It originally was shown between 1962-1971 with 274 episodes! I saw it a lot later than that (coz I weren't born then!) Early eighties, as far as I remember. One thing about it though was the impact it had on people in your area who were a bit scruffy. We always nicknamed them 'The Clampetts'. Cruel I suppose, but entertaining. The sort of people Dave Spikey refers to as 'Dobbers'. It's also very famous for it's catchy theme tune... Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed, Then one day he was shootin at some food, And up through the ground came a bubblin crude.
Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.
Well the first thing you know ol Jed's a millionaire, Kinfolk said "Jed move away from there" Said "Californy is the place you ought to be" So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly.
Hills, that is. Swimmin pools, movie stars.
Well now its time to say good by to Jed and all his kin. And they would like to thank you folks fer kindly droppin in. You're all invited back a gain to this locality To have a heapin helpin of their hospitality
Hillybilly that is. Set a spell, Take your shoes off.
Y'all come back now, y'hear?.

Just watched a DVD I found in my cupboard, a couple of episodes of pure hilarity.
Jed walking into the bank to get some money, with his shotgun.
Passing food with snooker cues in the "fancy eating room".
Granny making lye oap, and her cure for the common cold : "Take this medicine, and in 7 to 10 days, the cold is gone" !
And the amazing way that just before someone comes to the door, bells can be heard coming from the walls.
Fine and dandy, I say.
