Thanks for trying. I'm told there is one, and someone at work reckons he can hack it when he comes in on Monday. Thanks for all your efforts.

Hi and thanks for all your efforts. Well, there is a web page devoted to my Philips model PET706 and someone more competent than me "adjusted" it today, so please stand down on this one, and thanks again. I was hoping my Mieles DVD would arrive today, but not so. Maybe tomorrow. We have tried some Region 1 DVDs on this machine and it works perfectly with them, and my Region 2 ones as well, so it seems the treatment did the trick. If you would like to know the page location, look in the Laurel and Hardy Forum under Denker's, with the thread DVD Regions. Regards

Great news! Glad you got it sorted... you'll be able to get allsorts off eBay now... majority of non-U.K. stuff has lads extra too - so well worth making your machine multi-region! N.

The more I watch Melies (and I've been doing so, over and over again) the more I'm amazed. This incredible guy produced trick-shot films, COLOUR films (hand painted), satire, adventure, adverts and comedy films, all before 1900! His "later" films (up to 1909) explored even more adventurous territory, and Melies appeared in every film. The woman I referred to before is his grand-daughter, and she promises another DVD soon. Anyone interested in early film (and it doesn't come much earlier, only R.W. Paul and Lumiere) will be fascinated by this stuff, all filmed on crude cameras (a converted projector in Melies's case) and without benefit of technology. Electricity was unreliable and weak in those days, so Melies relied a lot on daylight. He was a fantastic artist who painted all his own scenery, designed costumes and sets and drew wonderful stills and effects. He even included "product placement" in at least one film, using a giant bottle of branded champagne centre-screen. The existing DVD includes his "Trip to the Moon", The Music Lover (using his own "severed" head as all the musical notes) and a spoof on The Cakewalk, a dance popular in those days. No film buff can be without it, but beware...it is Region 1 so you'll need a suitable DVD player, or get your Region2 player "hacked".
