Remember when changing a headlight bulb meant opening the bonnet, pulling off a rubber cover and swapping one bulb for another ? Went out the other night to take eldest daughter to Guides, and discovered that I had only one working headlight. "Righto" I thought, job for tomorrow night. NAH ! The passenger side lamp is buried under the battery, and according to the manual you have to remove the bumper (a two man job) just to change a f*cking headlamp bulb. WHY WHY WHY WHY ? Got a set of those fancy blue lights from e-bay for £12, so may as well change all the bulbs while I'm at it. Good job I have a mechanic mate willing to help.

Had the new lights fitted yesterday. Went out after dark to check them out, and popped in to Sainsbury's.
This morning I noticed that the light was full of condensation. On closer examination I found some green paint on the lens and a crack. Some c*nt must have scraped it while I was in the shop.
B*STARD !!!!!!

I sympathise, Mr. L. Would it have really been such a big deal for him to have left his name and number on your windscreen? R sole. Might be a wild idea, but could you maybe ask Sainsbury's if they have CCTV footage from their car park of the person that hit you, so you can get in touch with them?
A similar thing happened to us a while back. Some git hit us while we were parked in the car park right outside our apartment. We came out one morning to find the entire lens cover missing from our left rear light. All we could do was cover it with red motorist's tape.
A few months later when we had to have brake work done, our mechanic, who is as old-school as you can get, and has a large yard full of junked cars, just happened to have an old Dodge Caravan in the same model shape as ours. He gave us the lens cover and fitted it free of charge.

Oh ! I DO NOT BELIEVE IT ! A couple of months ago Mrs L had a headlight bulb go on her car. Fortunately it was on the driver's side and (relatively) easy to get at, so I did it myself. A week later the same happened to my car, driver's side as well, but I had to get my mechanic mate to do it. Tonight I noticed that the passenger side had blown. Is it just me ? My mate is on holiday for a week so I'll just have to wait.

Same thing happened again this year. One went, got it fixerd, only for the other one to go two days later. Oh well, I suppose it's a blessing that they didn't both go while I was out somewhere. And, on the subject of headlights, why, why, why do some people think that sidelights are sufficient when it's getting dark, raining or foggy ? How much extra effort is it to turn that switch a bit further ? Headlights are so other people can see you, not just to help you to see the road ahead. Muppets !!!!!!!!!!! OK, rant over.

One of mine has just blown... Last time I changed one it cost me £185 in the end, due to faulty wiring and a dodgy mechanic, which led to a further cost for a auto electrician I can change the bulb myself (just about), although it's tricky. Have to go under the wheel, remove a plastic cover over the wheel arch and reach inside, probably slicing my arm in the process. As long as it doesn't cost me the same as before, the blood loss will be worth it!

On the way home last night (pitch black & poor visibility due to the rain) I saw 3 cars on the M6 without their lights on!!! Idiots.

Got home today and turned off the engine, accidentally leaving lights on. There was a strange whirring noise coming from the front of the car, which turned out to be the headlight adjustor motors. Stuck my ear against one and then the other and noticed................... can you guess ? Yes, once again the headlight bulb demon has struck. Phoned tame mechanic and he'll fix it thursday, and disconnect motors as I never need to adjust the headlights. Then at 8pm I get a phone call from Mrs L to say............. can you guess where this is going ? Oh yes, she's got a bulb gone on her car too. WTF ? Thank God or whoever you may believe in for my mate Pete. I take Mrs L's car to work on wednesdays to give it a good run, so he'll do hers tomorrow.
