On 7th April, I'm taking Mrs L to London for the day. We'll have been together for 25 years and I thought it would be nice to spend the day in The Smoke. Go on the Eye, take her out to lunch, and then buy her something nice in Covent Garden. We haven't been on a train for about 5 years. Guess when the b*stards have chosen to stage train strikes ?

Shit!
Being in Essex, are you not near enough to drive? I realise the stress of a drive might take some of the romance out of it, but at least you could still have your day out.

Unfortunately, driving would be more hassle than it's worth. By train it's an hour, with no parking worries. By car it's an hour too. Anyway, tickets have already been bought (my moneysaving backfired a bit as it would cost £10 each to get them changed to another day).
The strike is from 6am to 10am and 6pm to 10pm every day that week, and we were intending to catch a 9.30 train. Hopefully some trains will be running before we have to go, to get rid of all the commuters, and the extra half hour just means we'll have to walk faster when we get there !

Well, at least that's something. It's not a complete loss, albeit a pain in the r's.
