Took my car in last week to get my clutch fixed. Was quoted 300 quid. It had not been in more than half an hour when I got a phone call saying the fly wheel needed doing as well making it a further 200 quid.
Got it back Friday night. Worked in it, Saturday afternoon I spotted a massive puddle of oil under the car. Told the mechanic who said he must've put too much oil in the gearbox when he put it all back together. Took it back to him Sunday night to sort it out.
So far, the car's still there and from what I've heard, he knackered up my gearbox and is now currently repairing that now. There was nothing wrong with the gearbox when it went in.
Still waiting for my car.................

Got mine in two weeks, and with it being a taxi it's a more strict test. Not looking good this time. Still need to find that fee yet £263 If it fails I'll cry!

Also, having no car means I'm temporarily out of work!

I feel for you. I have a brilliant mechanic, self-employed, who has become a mate, which I suppose helps. He's saved me hundreds in garage bills. See Headlights thread !

It's hard to find a mechanic you can trust and who won't take the mick when it comes to billing you.

I knew the exhaust was sounding noisy..... it needed a box & a clamp. Also, 2 welding spots, a bulb out & headlights needed aligning....
They never mentioned the missing back wiper... thought that would be a fail point too!
Gave me a minor heart attack when they said how much it was gonna cost. Not got it back yet, picking it up at lunch time tomorrow.
Work weren't over-pleased, either, when I said I couldn't get in!

That sounds very pricey for that. Bulbs are dirt cheap. Alignment literally takes seconds to do.
I'd get a quote on an exhaust somewhere else just to compare their charge.
Not sure on welding costs these days.

No idea.... I know the welding is usually around £50 +VAT a time.... I don't know if it depends on the size of the welding patch.... That also includes the £35 for the MOT itself.
They've never ripped me off before, so that's probably about right.... *sigh*
