the fact that Porridge, open all hours and the 2 Ronnies turn up on BBC 2 and ITV3 at the moment show that this man was one of the true greats.
Both as a writer and performer.

Never got in to Ronnie Barker that much, but do have the greatest respect for him as a comedy writer.

Belter! How can Fletcher and Arkwright seem so TOTALLY different when it's the same chap? True talent - and an excellent writer too - anyone who is into puns, malapropisms and spoonerisms AND knows how to effect 'em properly is a genius is my book. N.

Legend! Was both happy and sad when he and Ronnie C did the Two Ronnies Scrapbook. Great to see him back, but shocking to see him looking so frail. If there's a better place, Ronnie Barker will be there now.

Just been reading a book of all the comedy scripts Ronnie Barker wrote (at least all that still survives), made me realise what a superb writer he was.
The classic "Fork Handles" sketch has a very different ending in the script to what was on the 2 Ronnies show - a buxom woman reading his list of items, saying "So what sort of knockers do you want?"

Rewatching Porridge at the moment ,and it is another show with a great cast of supporting actors , I particularly like Brian Wilde as Mr Baraclough who Fletcher describes in the first episode as looking like Arthur Askey on stilts ;D , but Ronnie Barker must stand out as one of if not the greatest comedy/character actors ever .
