Unless you get mugged... then you'll be pretty p*$$ed off. The subway trains are probably the most uncomfortable experience, especially during the rush hour and you're packed in like cattle. As for the Empire State building, that was one of my 'things to do'. I never expected to change one of the health & safety rules, that was a bonus. I also had my 1st beer there and can honestly say that I p*ssed on it too. (well in the gents!) Just to avoid any confusion, I have renamed this thread. For those who didn't know, I used to go by the name of Spielberg but not anymore.

Well, one would want to ride the subway once or twice, but for the most part, I recommend people walk.
Alone.
In Central Park.
At midnight.
Counting your money...
Seriously, it's a great walking city. So much to see and look at.
Just don't look up. They'll spot you as a tourist in a second! Then you won't have any more money to count....

Well, one would want to ride the subway once or twice, but for the most part, I recommend people walk. We did a lot of walking too. We caught the subway just to get near to where we were going that particular day. Our hotel was on w77th Street, so a lot of stuff was a very long walk away. One can only walk so far before the old feet start to pack up! As far as trouble went, we didn't see much apart from near where the Flatiron building is. There were a lot of gangs hanging around on street corners. It felt like we were a part of the 'Grand Theft Auto' game! ;D Also, just outside Central Park near the Dakota building, a woman approcahed me, totally p*ssed and an obviously a complete loon and just shouted at me for no reason whatsoever.. "We got Jane Fonda, what the hell did you do!" Crazy but funny. ;D

I would love to see the Plaza Hotel. I never saw that hotel. Will the Hilton do instead?
