There was a China Buffet near where we stayed but I don't like chinese food that much to be honest. Seemed good value what I heard about it though.
Here, while were on about food. What's the crack over there with 'Chicken & Biscuits'? There was a place there called 'Popeyes', which specialised in them. Also, McDonalds were advertising them on the telly as part of their breakfast menu.
I saw a few pictures of them on the menus. To me, it was basically a scone with a chicken burger in the middle.
Also at KFC they did a Variety Bucket which only consisted of x amount of chicken pieces + biscuits (scones) Hardly a variety or appetising.
I'll stick to having my scones with either jam or butter!
First off, I doubt it's the same China Buffet, as far as I know they're not a chain; Ours is owned by a young Chinese couple. They don't grasp English too well, and we go in there so often, they actually asked Renee once to explain a letter they had that they didn't understand properly.
As for 'biscuits,' what us Brits consider a 'biscuit', ie, Digestive, Jammy Dodger, Hob Nob etc, is considered a 'cookie' in the USA, no matter what type of biscuit it is.
An American-style 'biscuit' is essentially a scone, although cooked without sugar and with buttermilk. Americans, especially in the south, LOVE them, both sweet and savoury. They'll have them with jam, or honey, or butter, with breakfast, with a fried chicken dinner (like KFC), especially in the deep south, or, disgusting as this sounds (it's really not, I've had it), with gravy poured over it. Sometimes it's normal brown gravy, other times it's white 'sausage' gravy which is a spicy gravy that has tiny chunks of sausagemeat in it. I've even heard of some people crushing them up in mashed potatoes with gravy.
We rarely (actually I don't think we ever have) get the KFC variety bucket, but you get 3 types of chicken, and some biscuits. Trust me, it's good. In my humble opinion, American KFC is WAY better than the British, though we usually stick to the buffet.
If we do order a bucket from KFC, (which isn't often - we get Wal Mart's takeout chicken as it's cheaper!) we get their deal that offers X pieces of chicken, six biscuits, and sides. Sides range from mash, beans, potato salad, coleslaw etc etc.
