Half way through Dawn French's "Dear Fatty". Very good, and moving in places. Also just got my copy of the new version of the Laurel and Hardy "Bible". Some great extra pictures that I haven't seen before. Reading heaven !

I finished Framed and Hired: Nanny Bride today. Not sure if you guessed it but I am fan of Harlequin Romance novels. I can usually finish one a day.

The Kenneth Williams Diaries.
Fascinating, as I can almost hear him reading them to me.

I'm trying (yet again) to read the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
But I just don't like Douglas Adams' writing style.

Have you tried the audio book version, read by Simon Jones ? It's excellent. Even as a fanatical HHGTTG fan I have to agree that Adams' writing style is hard work. His own reading of his other books (Dirk Gently and the Long Dark Teatime), which I didn't really enjoy reading for the same reason, is also very disappointing.

If you mean the original 1970's radio shows, Mr. L, yeah, I heard those years ago, before I ever tried to read the book(s) or I saw the TV show.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the story, so I want to enjoy the books.
Especially as we have the monstrous 815-page Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide, which contains all 5 novels plus "Young Zaphod Plays It Safe." I like large books. If I could only get into it, it would keep me going for a while.

I actually meant the books themselves , read by Simon Jones. He puts so much life into the stories which (IMO) Adams himself fails to put across. I suppose that as a main cast member he's the best one to do it. Got the Ultimate version myself and it's a lump to carry around, innit ? Stick with it. I reckon it's worth it, but I'm biased.

Well, in that case, no, I've never actually heard the audiobook version. The reason I thought you meant the radio version is because I never knew about the audiobook version.
Plus, I now realise I'm confusing my Joneses! The radio show was narrated/read by PETER Jones, wasn't it, "the voice of the book." The other Jones (Simon) is of course, Arthur!
Sorry, Mr. L, I misunderstood you because I confused myself! ;D

What was the question ? Who are you anyway ? ;D Oh, and if you were confused before, so was I !! It's been a few years since I actually listened to the audio version, and when I looked a few minutes ago I found I'd made a little faux pas . It was Stephen Moore who read the books. D'OH!!!! Simon Jones did do one book, but it was The Salmon of Doubt. Sorry. Gee I'm dumb today. (Actually I think that's twice this week. Or was that thrice ?) Just ignore me and I'll go away.
