George Formby was an excellent entertainer. A great Lancashire lad. He did a beltin' job of singing to the troops during the war, and made some funny fillms as well. Miles better than the terrible films Elvis Presley did years later.

It would help if they showed 'em... used to repeat a lot on BBC2 but not now Same with the other great - Will Hay! They should put all this stuff back on, instead of all this modern shite! N.

It'd be a breath of fresh air & would introduce a new audience to their work.

A bronze statue of George was unveiled yesterday in the Grand Arcade Wigan. I've not seen it yet, but when I do, I'll take a photo (if they let me) and post it on here!

I'd heard this info on Wish FM. I've been to Wigan today and couldn't see the statue anywhere. Either I'm going blind or it isn't there!

I have been informed today that the statue of George IS definately in the Grand arcade. Apparantly, it's right at the bottom as far as you can go, to the right of Debenhams, there is an alley type thing. It's down there in the corner. Next time I'm in Wigan I'll have another look.

The only Formby film I've ever seen was the one about the TT... That was kinda funny.
There's a statue of him over here... Leaning against a lampost with a... banjo? Or something like that. There's someone on the bench too but I don't remember who that it.
