It's a classic, but Father Ted was much funnier, IMHO. I think it's the way John Sullivan adds moments of poignancy to the comedy that makes Only Fools come out on top in most 'best ever sitcom' polls. But nothing has ever made me laugh as much as Ted.

First three series with Leonard Pierce (Granddad) - excellent!
Some of the Buster Merryfield (Uncle Albert) stuff okay... especially the one where he 'falls' down a beer cellar!
But owt from 'Cassandra' era onwards when it became more drama - utter sh*te!

My personal favourite is 'Jolly Boys Outing' Some good funny stuff in that. Love the scene in the boarding house when Rodney & Albert are arguing in bed.. DEL: Will you two be quiet... It's like sleepping with Zippy & Bungle! Love any scenes with Trigger. Especially... TRIGGER: Problems, Dave? RODNEY: I don't want to talk about it Trig. You ever been wrongly accused of something? TRIGGER: Yeah once. RODNEY: Yeah, How did you get out of it? TRIGGER: Well I didn't - I was guilty. when they are choosing a name for Raquel's baby... "If it's a girl, They're naming her 'Sigourney' after the actress. If it's a boy, they're gonna name him Rodney... after Dave!"RODNEY: Trigger what are you doing here? TRIGGER: Well Dave, Del Boy said he'd give me a lift down the pub. RODNEY: Oh I suppose that's... Hold on, you live closer to the pub then we do? TRIGGER: Yeah I know, but Del Boy said he'd give me a lift down the pub. RODNEY: But Trigger, you've had walk past the pub to get to our flat! TRIGGER: I know, but Del Boy said he'd give me a lift down the pub.

Final "proper" story, before they made all the "after they're rich" specials.
When they're auctioning the watch, and Del Boy realises the price it's going for. Just before he faints the look on David Jason's face is classic.
Plus, in the same ep, Del Boy and Rodders in the van, afterwards:
Rodders: So, do you want to go first, or shall I? Del Boy: Well, you know, why don't we go together...?
...and then the rock the poor Reliant almost off it's springs!
Plus of course all the Batman and Robin scenes near the beginning. Classic.
And of course, Uncle Albert:
Albert: Durin' the w... Del Boy: If you say "Durin' the War" once more, I'm gonna pour this cup of tea right over your head! Albert: I wasn't gonna say "Durin' the war!" Bloody know it all! Del Boy: Alright, I'm sorry, *Pause* Albert: During the 1939/1945 conflict with Germany......

And the one where they find out that he was actually based in the Isle Of Wight during the war... even though he said it was 'overseas'. "It's hardly overseas though is it?" "You want to try walking it there, mate!" ;D N.

Earlier ones were much better than the last ones. Anyway, here are some space saver covers. Let me know if anybody wants them emailing across. I think I am only missing about 6 specials to complete the set.

I was very suprised to see there isn't many replies in this. this is britain's best ever sitcom in my opinion. it started off well and got loads better when they showed more of trigger and boycie.

it started off well and got loads better when they showed more of trigger and boycie. Very true! The first few series were based just in Del, Rodney & Grandad. If they didn't bring in more characters, it wouldn't have lasted as long as it did. I still say they should've left it alone after 'Time On Our Hands'. That had a good ending. It didn't need to be brought back after that.

That I agree with. By the time they made the "after they were rich" specials I was in the good ol' US of A, so I haven't seen them, but from what I've read and from what I remember of the "proper" finale, I think they should have left it as it was.
Their walking off into the sunset at the end of that ep said it all really.
And even then, much as I loved it, David Jason was beginning to look a little old. Even in the Del Boy getup, he was looking more like Inspector Frost than Derek Trotter.

Now "Touch Of Frost" is excellent - Sir. Del Boy is well deserving of awrds for his talents over the years... except maybe for "Perfec" Pop Larkin - he's allreet in my book - but should have left well alone before "Fools" started with all the Raquel/Cassandra histrionics!
Del and Rodney were excellent as a 'Wide Boy' and a 'Dipstick' without the need for pathos... which then required overuse of Trigger and Uncle Albert as comedy foils - a trick employed since Shakespearian times as comic relief in tales of tragedy etc.
For that kind of cr*p we had Carla Lane thank you!
Anyhow - I'll leave it at that - far too early for all these big words!

should have left well alone before "Fools" started with all the Raquel/Cassandra histrionics! N. I see what you mean about Cassandra/Raquel, but there were still a lot of funny stuff with Del, Rodney & Albert in those episodes. Cassandra's character was a bit dull, but Raquel managed to get some good scenes (sometimes). The one where she was singing on stage with that bloke who couldn't pronounce his 'R's... They sung the classic hits 'Cwying', 'Please Welease Me' and not forgetting the Tom Jones classic 'The Gween Gween Gwass of Home'! ;D

Aye - I saw some of that on telly yesterday. Generally the Cassandra ones were cr*p though - an exception being "The Jolly Boys Outing" which is TOP - and it has Chas N' Dave singing on it - excellent! N.
