The Laurel & HarDay is a one-day convention of the Laurel & Hardy appreciation society, the 'Sons of the Desert'. The event began in 1993 and is ran by the 'Bacon Grabbers UK'. SAMfilms have filmed the day's events every year. The day is a general get together of Laurel & Hardy fans worldwide, who share their love of the films, by watching some of the classic films that Stan & Ollie made together. (and by drinking quite a lot throughout the day!) I have been put in charge of a new item at this years Laurel & HarDay. We are doing a Laurel & Hardy version of the 'X Factor', but were having the 'Fez Factor'!  Three judges, six acts singing Laurel & Hardy songs. The audience will vote the winner. Should be a laugh! Anyone interested in coming down for the Laurel & HarDay to see this, it's on Saturday 2nd September 2006 at the 'Beer Engine' pub, Poolstock, Wigan. I must get those posters circulated this week. I've printed some off ready. Might nip into Wigan on Monday with some, then nip down t'Beer Engine. Up to now, the 'Fez Factor' will not be taking place. No-one's bothered to volunteer for it. The 10th Kneesy Earsy Nosey Competition will be proudly sponsored by us! www.planetcomedy.org.ukI will make several posters of our forum to display all round the Beer Engine on the day, and try and persuade a few more people to join us! |

For anyone who may be interested in attending this year's Laurel & HarDay, here's details as supplied by organiser Chris Coffey...  14th ANNUAL LAUREL AND HARDAY. SATURDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER 2006. 1pm to 8pm The Beer Engine, Poolstock, Wigan (approx 15 minutes walk from both railway stations, or a short taxi ride) Admission £6  This year our special guest is Jean Darling, who makes a welcome return. Jean appeared in the Laurel and Hardy film “Babes In Toyland”, as Curly Locks. However, as a child star and member of “Our Gang”, making films on the Hal Roach lot on the adjacent stage to where the Boys were making their films, and as Stan was a friend of her mother, she met both quite often.  Douglas Brown, a Son of the Desert from Stranraer, will be showing and talking about rare clips from the foreign versions of the Boy’s films. Anthony Waite, a Son of the Desert from the Potteries, will be showing and talking about cartoons which have featured guest caricatures of the Boys. There will be classic shorts, rare footage, memorabilia stalls, the Kneesy, Earsy, Nosey World Championship, and guest Sons from the Netherlands, who are hosting the 2008 International Sons of the Desert Convention. The bar is open all day and hot food (being Wigan, that includes pies and radio-active chips!) is available most of the day. |

Here's a few posters I've made that I will be displaying on the day! (spot the subtle plug!!!)    As it will be the 10th World Championship of Kneesy Earsy Nosey this year, I've done a poster of each of the previous 9 winners. (spot even more plugging!!!)  If this publicity doesn't increase our members, I'll eat my hat! ;D |
