The quintessential quickfire stand-up comedy show, The Comedians is one of the great successes of ITV1 - lasting from 1971 until 1993 and making household names of many of its stars. With routines that were honed to perfection in the hard-knock territory of Northern working men's clubs, Frank Carson, Charlie Williams, Bernard Manning, Colin Crompton and Ken Goodwin all became masters of the one-liner and the knowing wink. The Comedians was immediately popular with the viewing public scoring high ratings and gaining a BAFTA nomination for Best Light Entertainment Programme. It lasted for eleven series and several specials over twenty-two years. This specially-created compilation from its early years contains some of the best moments from series one. Extra Features : Ken Goodwin's Year: First transmitted on 25 January 1972, this documentary (made by Comedians producer Johnny Hamp) showcases comedian Ken Goodwin, for whom 1971 was his most successful year, culminating in his appearance at the Royal Command Performance. Out now. Only £6.99 delivered. (play.com) www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/904316/The_Comedians_The_Very_Best_Of_Series_1/Product.htmlI've just ordered it myself! ;D

Got my copy yesterday. Just watched it. it's very interesting. Lots of bad jokes and a very elderly audience! (they were in those days) It's very strange to hear Bernard Manning telling jokes with using the F word!, Sadly the Dougie Brown parrot joke wasn't on it. I was very dissapointed at that. Ken Goodwin though, very funny, although his jokes aren't that great. It's the way he just laughs at himself that cracked me up! I recommend watching it after a few beers. I'm sure it'll be hilarious then!
