It's a bit rough, but I personally think that here where it's mild by comparison with further up North, the schools in particular are over reacting. We got a text at 10.15 last night to say the school was going to be closed. How did they know what it was going to be like today ? Had to take the day off as both the girls' schools are closed. Walked with little'un to the local farm to get some eggs, then over to Sainsbury's for lunch. Managed to get almost home and was roped in to helping push a large snowball, which resulted in one of the eggs getting broken. I have big pockets in my coat and thought the eggs were safe. Then I realised that I had put my new phone in the same pocket ! It was a bit sticky when I got home. D'OH !!! Time now to install my new BT router that arrived this morning.

Glad everyone's car woes seem to be sorted. Penguin, I SYMPATHISE. Don't get me wrong, I do miss having the car on occasion, but when Renee has to go out to work in this weather, I LOVE that she gets driven door-to-door and doesn't have to fight with the roads. Not to mention scraping ice, sitting shivering waiting for the engine and transmission to warm up, etc. Aside from the incident with the sink, we've had a relatively uneventful 2010 so far. We went out with friends on New Year's Eve and had a great night, and since then life has just ticked by. Thanks to a little windfall a few days after Christmas, we had a nice Christmas and got ourselves out of debt with the bank, so hopefully life can continue just ticking by. I'd be perfectly happy with a quiet life. This morning so far I've cleaned the apartment, and am now planning to have lunch in an hour or so whilst listening to the latest episode of my podcast. Then tomorrow is shopping day. Like I said, a quiet life.

We had friends over on Wed night for a meal, and a good time was had by all. They left early, sadly, since he works nights and had to go to work, but we got a card in the mail this morning thanking us, and saying let's do it again soon, which was rather nice.

Been talking to Mr Patel and Mr Patel at BT , trying to get my broadband connection back. Took two phone calls of 21 and 18 minutes to get them to realise that the fault was that the broadband signal was not getting to the hub, and they said that they would contact me within 48 hours to tell me what was happening. Ten minutes later it was back on ! Can't fault that, even if I did have a little trouble understanding them.

Went out shopping with Renee yesterday. Mostly for groceries, but since it's also her birthday and our wedding anniversary next week, we celebrated early with dinner out and a couple of toys. For Renee, two video games she spotted and grabbed. For me a(nother!) copy of Terminator 2, on the Extreme DVD. I've owned so many copies of that which have all ended up at the pawn shop when skint. Not skint any more though!
I also got the special edition, 2-disc Director's Cut version of Robocop which I've wanted to see for years. NEVER expected to find it just sitting at Wal Mart.
I ALMOST bought the 2-disc Spider-Man 3 as well, but my darling wife told me two was enough. Maybe next time if it's still there.

Getting tired of house hunting...... still, the perfect place for us it out there somewhere, just need to keep looking. Went to see 2 more last week. If the 1st one had been in a nicer area I may have been tempted to take it, but there was absolutely no parking for streets around - which is rubbish. The 2nd house was nicer but the kitchen was so small you couldn't swing the proverbial cat Ho hum.

Went for a nice walk in to town yesterday morning as Mrs L wanted to go. She drove in and I met them there.
Got home and had a look at Mrs L's new CD player in her car as it only worked when the engine is off. The radio was fine, but not the CD player. So, I thought I'd try the old radio cassette, thinking that if the cassette didn't work on that, perhaps it might point to a fault on the ignition wiring or the plug in the back of the machine. (It was a wiring problem that started the whole thing.) Put it all back in and it works perfectly !!
So it looks like I wasted £80 on a duff CD player (e-bay, so I'm stuffed). Going to get my mate to look at it in case it can be repaired, as Mrs L is not happy, I can tell you.
Then spent ages answering questions from a technical bod as I've been having problems with my CD/DVD drive. A great site recommended to me by a friend, called Protonic.com. They give FREE advice on all sorts of PC problems and are just so helpful, it's unbelievable. Got a reply within an hour and a solution (hopefully) this morning, which I will try tonight.

Now that Renee and I have our lives back, this is what we've spent the last week doing:
Paying bills, courtesy of efiling tax returns and getting a fast refund back from Uncle Sam.
Paying the second half of the fine I got in November (the part that couldn't be worked as Community Service) That part of my life is now DONE WITH AND OVER![/i]
Getting ourselves on a plan with our mobile phone so we have consistent phone service after trying and discarding other options.
Slipping in the ice rink that is our car park on my way to K-Mart and whacking my knee.
Accidentally whacking my toe on a kitchen chair, turning the air blue(!) and my toe black....still hurts.
Chatting (albeit not yet with giant afros) with KK and Zoot - mostly about their prospective new house, you'd think they were excited or something.
Getting back GameFly, which Renee and I loved when we could afford it before. Rather than them sending us one game each as we had arranged, they sent two for me. I have to decide which to send back so Renee gets one. I'm sending back the racing game they sent me, Enthusia Professional Racing, which is alright, but VERY frustrating and unforgiving, and keeping for the time being Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, whose main goal is, well, use a big green behemoth and smash the crap out of the game environment. Incredibly satisfying!
And finally, today is mine and Renee's eighth wedding anniversary. We've already bought presents etc a week or so ago, so tonight we plan to stay in, eat a good dinner and have a few drinks, and tomorrow we're going out for lunch to one of our favourite restaurants.
